If you see an animal in distress, the quickest way to help is to please try and confine it, if safe to do so and get it to us in Queensbury or take it to a local vet and give them our details and please ask them to call us.
If it is trapped or you can't get to it contact us, we will go out and attempt to rescue the distressed animal.

The Yorkshire Animal Welfare Society currently has only one holding with a holding number, this holding number is a legal requirement for cloven-hoofed animals i.e sheep/goats/pigs so we are limited in the way of space and will only help the most in need at that time.

In order for us to help, we rely on dedicated foster homes to house, care for on our behalf and if we have any available at the time of rescue then we will assist where we can.

Whom you should contact for:

 

  • Transport – If you’re concerned about the way in which farm animals are being transported, or treated at a livestock market, then please contact Trading Standards.

  • Slaughter – If the concern is about farm animals at a slaughter plant or the illegal killing/slaughter of farm animals outside of a slaughter plant, then please contact the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

  • Non-welfare issues – If you have a farm animal enquiry that is not an animal welfare issue, e.g. it concerns carcass disposal, or in the event of a suspected notifiable disease, then please contact the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

Do you know about your legal responsibilities that come with livestock ownership?

 

Owning livestock is a big, time-consuming commitment, and part of responsible livestock ownership, is routine veterinary care, training and the day to day, care they require to stay healthy.

But part of Livestock ownership you need to be aware of is your legal responsibilities surrounding the ownership of livestock, dealing with issues from duties in public, minimum care responsibilities of the Five freedoms enclosed within the Animal Welfare Act 2006 legislation.

The law on the health and welfare of livestock, including traceability, transport, diseases, animal/pet feed and disposal of fallen stock.
